The Perfect Backpack for the Next Stage of Motherhood: A Comparison of the Dagny Dover Dakota Backpack and the Indy Backpack w/ Video Review & Discount Code

As a mom of two boys, aged four and two, my needs for a backpack have evolved. Keep reading for a video review and discount codes! I'm no longer lugging around bottles and tons of diapers, but I do need to carry water bottles, snacks, first aid kits, a change of clothes, and various other items. On top of that, as a business owner, I often work from different locations and need a bag that can accommodate my laptop and notebook. I was on the hunt for a "me" bag for this next stage of motherhood and found myself comparing two popular choices: the Dagny Dover Dakota Backpack and the Indy Backpack. I couldn't decide so I ordered both!

Water Bottle Storage: A Must-Have Feature

One of the most important features for me is the ability to fit water bottles on the side. Silly I know!! I’m constantly grabbing water bottles for my boys, and I’ve noticed that some backpacks don’t accommodate them well. I quickly discovered that the Dagny Dover Dakota Backpack, couldn’t fit my kids’ small Yeti water bottles, which was a dealbreaker since those are the smallest bottles we have at home. Although it did fit a plastic water bottle, we rarely use those.

On the other hand, the Indy Backpack excelled in this area. It has a stretchy spot on the side for larger water bottles, including my own. While neither backpack offers a bottom support for the side pockets, making them feel slightly less secure, the Indy’s pockets still felt more accommodating.

Interior and Additional Features

Both backpacks come with a laptop sleeve inside, which is a non-negotiable feature for me as I often carry my laptop. They also both have a back sleeve that can slide over a suitcase handle, making travel more convenient.

The Indy Backpack, designed more as a diaper bag, offers more compartments, which can be incredibly useful for organizing all the miscellaneous items I carry. It also comes with stroller hooks, which can be handy even though I’m past the heavy stroller-using phase.

Design and Aesthetic

I opted for the medium size in both backpacks and found it to be perfect. The small would definitely be too small, and the large would look awkwardly bulky IMO. The Indy Backpack is more square-shaped, whereas the Dagny Dover Dakota Backpack has a more rounded design. Personally, I preferred the square shape of the Indy as it felt more modern and functional for my needs.

Quality and Material

I’ve been eyeing these bags for a while, and I’m thrilled with the quality and material. Both bags are well-made and worth the investment. Plus, they’re machine washable! As a mom, this is a huge plus.

Colors and Variety

I love that these backpacks come in fun seasonal colors like iced lemon and royal blue. It’s a refreshing change from my black diaper bag and adds a touch of personality to my daily routine.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, I went with the Indy Backpack primarily because of its superior water bottle storage. I’m very happy with my choice and feel like it’s the perfect "me" bag for this next stage of motherhood.

If you’re considering either of these bags, I hope this comparison helps you make an informed decision. Check out my Instagram review video for a closer look at both bags.
